Veterans“Being involved with NBSS means I can be part of a movement: to open the School up to other communities, to other ways of thinking, and to help them in their mission to widen the range of people that are going into the traditional trades. …Because we need new blood, young people who have different traditions, different histories—to keep this industry going.”
– Norma Rey-Alicea
On Thursday, December 2, 2021, we gathered leaders from our network of hard working, mission-driven people and organizations who partner with our Admissions team to create career pathways that are often supported by NBSS institutional scholarships.
In conversation with Rob O’Dwyer, Director of Admissions & Enrollment, each guest shared their organization’s mission and purpose, success stories of their students who have attended NBSS, and lessons learned from partnering with the School.
The panelists included:
- Sarah Cherry-Rice, Founder, Executive Director of Digital Ready Boston
- Elizabeth Fitzgerald, Associate Director of Project REACH/Talent Search Program
- Norma Rey-Alicea, Founding Director of NextGen Talent
- Emmett Folgert, Director of SCD Programs at MissionSAFE
- Rachel Dovek, Employment and Education Manager, More Than Words
- Katherine Ouellette, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
NBSS offers nine separately accredited career training programs, and we also offer institutional scholarship support for qualified applicants. This includes a Workforce Development scholarship for residents of the City of Boston and graduates of Boston Public Schools that can cover total tuition, tools and materials, our Business Course, and MBTA passes. This and all of our scholarship offerings are made possible by our generous donors, and it complements our local efforts in recruiting students for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
