While I was studying psychology at Kenyon College, I took a summer book arts class at Penland School of Craft. I wanted to do more. After I finished at Kenyon, I did a one-year certificate program in book arts at the University of Iowa and then enrolled at NBSS.

I chose to come to the NBSS bookbinding program rather than staying at the University of Iowa in the Masters program because the focus on structures and bookbinding appealed to me more than the conceptual aspects in Iowa’s program.

At NBSS, I had the opportunity to really practice what we learn. By doing a structure a few times or completing several leather samples, I was able to worry less about making a mistake and my technique really improved.
