I studied architecture in university, then switched to mathematics, graduated, and took a job at Lockheed Missiles and Space in the manned space program.

I went back to school for a graduate degree, then spent most of my career doing pioneering work in computer graphics, visual languages, and information visualization and architectures. I also worked briefly developing the wholesale business for an artisanal coffee roasting company, but felt that I needed to do something more satisfying.

When I started to outplay my piano, I was told to play as many pianos as I could, and I was intrigued by how greatly individual pianos differed from one another.

I went to several Piano Technician Guild meetings, and realized that I need to go to a school to learn the craft. NBSS was highly recommended, and when I visited, everything felt exactly right.

While in school, I also worked toward an advanced certificate in piano performance. I also fly fish, and am an unsophisticated but enthusiastic foodie.
