Established in 1984, the three-year violin making and repair program at North Bennet Street School is one of the few full-time professional violin making programs in the country. The program attracts students who share a passion for aesthetic and tonal beauty, woodworking, and hand skills to make and restore stringed instruments that transcend time. The lead instructor, Roman Barnas, is an award-winning violin maker who studied in Poland and the United States.

The PBS show, Craft in America, visited the Violin Making and Repair program. An excerpt of their visit is recorded below.
