Teaching Book Structures for Conservators
A five-week introduction to book structures for conservators workshop, led by NBSS graduate and Winterthrur conservator Chela Metzger (far right in the photo) ended on July 28. The conservation students (left to right), Allison Holcomb and Carrie McNeal from the University of Delaware and Aisha Wahab from the University of Buffalo are all studying conservation. During the five-week course, the students developed basic bookbinding bench skills and explored historic book structures in the context of the conservation of books as historic artifacts.
This course is an example of the school’s ongoing commitment to designing continuing education programs that provide opportunities for serious students and professionals to learn from master teachers.
