In the Making: Girls at Work

In the Making“One very important skill I’ve learned in the shop is self-advocacy, which has helped me in school and at home. When I wasn’t in the program I would shy away from asking for help and doing things for myself, but now with this program, I push myself a little more to get those answers that I need.”
– Jazmin Sanchez Torres
On Thursday, April 29, 2021, we enjoyed hearing from Violet Brier and Jazmin Sanchez Torres, Leadership Program members Girls at Work, along with Rhea Vedro, NBSS Board Advisor and Director of Community Engagement at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and NBSS Carpentry students Cecelia Marquez CA ’21 and Xiomara Garcia CA ’21.
Located in Manchester, NH, Girls At Work offers a variety of after school, summer camp, and vacation programs for girls aged 8-18, many of whom are faced with economic hardship. In addition, they custom-develop team build events for homeschool groups, businesses, youth organizations, non-profit, women’s, and philanthropic projects-aimed at sharpening critical thinking skills and fostering teamwork and connection.
