Concord Museum Unveils Emerson’s Writing Chair

“Often Windsor chairs are referred to simply as green chairs in property listings from the 18th century,” said Wood. “While the original Emerson writing chair still bears its later 19th century black paint, traces of the original green can be detected.” The reproduction chair was painted a cheerful green to represent how the chair would have appeared during Emerson’s life.

Dan Faia [CF ’94], of the North Bennet Street School, spent over six hours just taking measurements from the original chair. He then constructed the reproduction chair using period-appropriate tools and woodworking techniques, in consultation with Jackson and Wood.”
