The School offers full-time programs in Bookbinding, Carpentry, Cabinet & Furniture Making, Jewelry Making & Repair, Locksmithing & Security Technology, Piano Technology, Preservation Carpentry, and Violin Making & Repair. In addition, NBSS provides continuing education classes in a range of related disciplines. The School is located at an impressive, new facility in Boston’s historic North End, the community in which it was originally founded in 1881.

Position Summary

North Bennet Street School (NBSS) seeks an accomplished, strategic, and relationship-driven fundraising leader to serve as its next Chief Advancement Officer (CAO). Reporting directly to the President and serving as a key advisor to both the President and Board leadership, the CAO will lead the next chapter of philanthropic growth for one of the nation’s most distinctive and historic educational institutions.

The Chief Advancement Officer serves as NBSS’s senior fundraising leader and is responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight for all aspects of the School’s philanthropic enterprise, including major gifts, annual giving, foundation and corporate relations, planned giving, stewardship, donor engagement, and development operations. The CAO partners closely with the President and Board of Directors to translate institutional priorities into compelling philanthropic opportunities and to build and sustain meaningful relationships with donors, alumni, foundations, corporations, and community leaders. The role also plays a critical leadership function in strengthening fundraising systems, enhancing development operations, and ensuring a best-practice, data-informed, and donor-centered advancement program.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished advancement leader with significant progressive experience in fundraising, preferably within higher education, independent schools, workforce development, arts and culture, or other mission-driven nonprofit environments. Strong candidates will bring a proven record of securing and closing major gifts, leading comprehensive fundraising programs, and building high-impact relationships with donors and volunteer leaders. They will be equally comfortable setting strategy, managing complex fundraising operations, and personally engaging in cultivation and solicitation activity. Exceptional communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to inspire confidence among senior leaders, board members, and external stakeholders are essential. A collaborative, entrepreneurial approach and an appreciation for the values of craftsmanship, hands-on learning, and career education are highly valued.

Pay Range

The compensation range for this position is $120,624-180,990. In addition, NBSS offers a comprehensive and generous benefits package which includes health, dental, group life and disability insurances, a retirement plan with employer contributions, and generous time off. This is an on-site position in Boston, MA with some flexibility to accommodate occasional offsite work, especially during the summer months.

The Director of Marketing & Communications provides strategic leadership for the School’s institutional marketing, communications, brand stewardship, and digital storytelling efforts. This role develops and implements integrated communications and marketing strategies that advance the School’s mission, visibility, enrollment goals, and institutional reputation. The Director oversees brand positioning, creative direction, media relations, enrollment marketing, publications, and digital engagement across multiple audiences and platforms. The role also manages external consultants and collaborates closely with departments across the School to support strategic communications priorities.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished marketing and communications professional with significant progressive leadership experience, preferably within higher education, nonprofit, arts, culture, or other mission-driven organizations. Strong candidates will thrive in a collaborative and close-knit environment and will have the ability to balance strategic thinking with execution in a small-team setting. Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills are paramount, along with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively across diverse constituencies. An appreciation for the mission and values of a craft-based educational institution is required; understanding of the arts, craft, design, or creative education environment is preferred.

Pay Range

Position Summary

North Bennet Street School seeks an Accounts Payable & Payroll Specialist to manage the full accounts payable cycle and process payroll. This role works closely with Finance, Human Resources, vendors, and employees to ensure accurate financial transactions, timely payroll processing, and compliance with accounting and payroll regulation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process vendor invoices and payments (check, ACH, and wire)
  • Work with Bursar’s office to process financial aid refunds
  • Maintain vendor records, W-9s, and annual 1099 reporting
  • Administer the corporate credit card program and expense reconciliations
  • Process biweekly payroll, including new hires, terminations, and employee changes
  • Manage payroll deductions, taxes, retirement contributions, and garnishments
  • Prepare payroll journal entries and reconcile payroll-related accounts
  • Assist with month-end close, audits, and student refund reconciliations
  • Identify opportunities to improve and automate AP and payroll processes

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Three or more years of experience in accounts payable and payroll 
  • Knowledge of GAAP, payroll regulations, and accounts payable practices
  • Strong Excel skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred

  • Experience in higher education, independent schools, or nonprofit organizations
  • QuickBooks experience
  • Expensify or similar expense management software
  • ADP Workforce Now
