In the Making: All in a Name

February 24, 2026

“When I bought an old house and needed to restore the windows, I thought, ‘That’s it, I’m just going to start a business fixing windows.’ A friend suggested ‘Window Woman,’ and I thought, ‘That’s a darn good name, I’ll keep it.'”

Crafting a Business — On Thursday, February 19, 2026 we hosted a conversation with Alison Hardy, founder of Window Woman of New England, who discussed how she conceived of her window restoration business in the early 2000s, how she chose a simple yet effective business name, how to build a brand identity that’s meaningful and true to your work, and how her business has grown and changed over the years.

After years of frustration with old, drafty windows, Alison Hardy couldn’t justify tossing out ones full of charm and character. Leaning into her Yankee thrift she began restoring her own windows, then those of friends, and eventually paying clients. In 2003, Window Woman of New England was born.
