Introduction to Prong Setting

Tuesday, July 15th to Thursday, July 24th, 2025 from 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Hours: 6:00 - 9:30 pm

Instructor: Colleen Matthews JM '12

In this class, students will explore setting round faceted stones in four-prong heads. They will learn how to make copper practice plates, set in the plates, and then set in a solitaire ring.

Tools & Supplies: All tools and supplies are provided for this class.

*Optional - Students can bring their own stone for their ring. The stone must be 5mm and a 7 on the MOHS scale.

Attire: This is a general list of how to dress for the shop environment, please contact ce@nbss.edu if you have any questions. 

  • Closed-toe, comfortable, and protective footwear (sneakers or boots   
  • No loose clothing
  • Long pants suggested
  • No loose jewelry
  • Long hair must be tied back

Prerequisite: Jewelry 101 or equivalent experience. Students should feel comfortable using basic jewelry tools and a flex shaft. If you have questions about your experience, please contact ce@nbss.edu.
