Erin Fletcher BB ’12

I came to North Bennet Street School two years after receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I dabbled in several mediums while attending SAIC but I was most intrigued by book art courses.

This initial introduction to bookbinding encouraged my application to NBSS, the country’s only full-time bookbinding program dedicated to teaching the traditional techniques of historical and modern bindings along with conservation practices.

Through North Bennet I received an internship in the Rare Book Room of the Boston Public Library, working once a week during the spring semester leading into full-time during the summer.

Although I spend most of the day at my bench binding, I can still find time in the week to enjoy other activities such as cooking, reading and biking. Once a week I work in the school’s Gallery, which is one of the few positions available to students.
