I thoroughly enjoy the materials and traditions involved in bookbinding and I am inspired to use the book form for artistic expression. Before coming to NBSS, I was an artist and art educator.

My biggest challenge when considering the Bookbinding program was that I also wanted to pursue a Masters in Fine Arts. Because there are no MFA programs that offer the technical aspects and bench work that NBSS does, I ultimately I did two programs nearly simultaneously – which was very challenging!

NBSS provides a unique experience because of the hands-on work, but there’s a lot more. The small size of the school allows for a very personal experience and a close community. I loved being part of a school that nurtures the passion of devoted craftspeople.

Going to NBSS was a good investment in my future. I now have a unique set of timeless skills that I can use to earn a living. Since graduating, I was an adjunct professor in the book arts and paper studios at two universities in Boston, maintained my own binding studio and worked part time for binderies, book artists and printers. Currently, I am the Program Director for the Rare Book School in Charlottesville, Virginia. I continue to maintain my studio/bindery and am a practicing artist. I hope to work at my bench for a long time to come.
