In the Making

“The Nepalese manufacturers we work with who are responsible for printing, they’re experts in their own field. … These aren’t machine processed materials, these are all lovingly crafted by hand. They’re artisans in their own right.”
– Keith Waters

On Thursday, October 14, 2021, we talked with artists and artisans Susy Pilgrim Waters and Keith Waters, founders of PilgrimWaters. We were also joined live by Liz Shepard and NBSS alumna Rebekah Lord Gardiner BB ’93, co-owners of Shepherd & Maudsleigh Studios, a 6,00 sq ft printmaking studio/artists’ space in West Newton, MA. It was an insightful conversation on the unique process of creating large and small scale silk screen work in a variety of media.

Husband and wife team Susy Pilgrim Waters and Keith Waters established PilgrimWaters in 2012 with a multi-part mission: to create functional, heirloom-quality goods, to tread gently on the earth, and to improve the lives of small manufacturers. Today they design and manufacture their own unique collection of practical wares.
