Home Shop Tour: Kolin Schmidt in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Cabinet & Furniture Making student Kolin Schmidt CF ’21 @kolin_j_woodworking shows us around his home shop in Iowa, which his grandfather built in the late 1960s for his own hobby woodworking projects.
Kolin is finishing his first year in the program, and also a Marine Corps veteran. He got creative to keep woodworking when our building closed, setting up a makeshift bench at his Boston apartment and building his own shave horse. He carved spoons outside in the backyard before deciding to head back home to Iowa, where he could take on more extensive projects in his family’s backyard woodworking shop. Kolin explains that even though the shop has a few quirks and drawbacks, it’s been a great space for him to get work done.
Swipe through to see photos of Kolin’s toolbox and Windsor chair, his Boston spoon carving, plus family photos of his dad when the home shop was being built, and his grandfather at work.
